K-Laser Skin Treatments in Canberra
What to expect at Gentle Hands Skin Cancer Clinic. By Dr Suran Rajapakse, Gungahlin, Canberra.
A spot that catches on clothing, a visible cluster of small blood vessels, or a change in skin texture can be frustrating. The first step is to work out what the skin change is. Once it has been assessed, laser treatment may be one option.

At Gentle Hands, Dr Suran Rajapakse uses the K-Laser Blue Derma for selected skin concerns. The device offers different treatment settings and handpieces, allowing the approach to be tailored to the condition and area being treated.
What can K-Laser be used for?
Depending on the diagnosis, Dr Rajapakse may discuss K-Laser treatment for selected benign lesions, such as skin tags and seborrhoeic keratoses, as well as some pigmentation, visible small blood vessels and skin texture concerns. The clinic also assesses conditions including rosacea, scars and fungal nails. A consultation does not mean laser will be recommended: some conditions need a different treatment, and results vary.
Why does the diagnosis come first?
A new or changing spot should never be assumed to be harmless. Before treating a lesion for cosmetic reasons, Dr Rajapakse will examine it and decide whether it needs monitoring, a biopsy, removal for pathology, or another form of care. Laser treatment can alter or remove tissue, so getting that decision right matters especially when skin cancer is a possibility.

What happens at an appointment?
Dr Rajapakse will ask about your concern, examine the area and explain the available options. If laser is suitable, he will discuss the likely number of sessions, expected healing, aftercare, costs and potential risks before treatment.
The experience depends on the procedure. Some treatments may feel warm or cause a brief stinging sensation; others may require topical or local anaesthetic. Redness, swelling or crusting can occur afterward. Possible risks include infection, scarring, and lighter or darker pigmentation. The chance of these effects depends on the treatment and your skin.
Is it right for me?
There is no single laser treatment that suits every spot or every person. If you have a lesion you would like assessed, or you are considering treatment for a skin concern, book a consultation with Dr Rajapakse to discuss what is appropriate for you.
